Pastoral Care Ministry at Our Lady of Fatima serves to extend the loving spirit and comfort of a faith-filled community to those who are unable to be physically present at liturgies and parish activities. It also provides guidance and facilitates liturgical planning for funerals, and it continues the parish relationship with bereaved family members. Dedicated volunteers also work to provide temporary care for parishioners experiencing some of life's challenging moments. Even the youngest members of the parish family are served by this ministry. |
Consolation Ministry
The Associate for Pastoral Care meets with bereaved family members to assist them in planning a meaningful funeral liturgy for their deceased relative. Parishioners who wish to preplan their funerals are also encouraged to do so. Volunteers assist in preparing the church for the funeral liturgies, and they may also serve as greeters, lectors, and extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist.
Contact and assistance for bereaved parishioners is maintained through mailings, individual counseling as needed, and invitation to join the Memories Group of widows and widowers co-hosted with St. Helen's Bereavement Committee. Each year, an All Souls' Day liturgy, to which all bereaved parishioners are invited, is held to remember and honor the deceased and to provide comfort to their friends and families.
Compassion Team
This group of volunteers provides temporary assistance to parishioners who may be experiencing a difficult time when family or friends are not available. They may provide a ride to church or to a doctor's appointment, grocery shopping, a few days of meals after hospitalization, a minor home repair, or some other service.
Visitation Ministry
Pastoral caregivers are trained to visit and bring Communion to the homebound members of our parish family, usually on a weekly schedule. Those who visit parishioners in nursing homes usually do so once or twice a month.
Stamping Group
The pastoral care ministry sends cards each month to parishioners who are homebound or in nursing homes in order to maintain their connection with our faith community. People with artistic talent or an interest in the craft of rubber stamping are always welcome to design or make the cards for each month's mailing. The stamping group usually meets twice a month on a schedule determined by its members.
Cooperative Nursery
When there is a demonstrated need and interest, the nursery is open during Sunday Masses for children from 1-4 years of age, provided there are two supervisors present. These parents or other adult volunteers are asked to staff the nursery on a rotating schedule. They must have completed Virtus training and criminal background checks in order to safeguard the children using the nursery.
